Have you ever felt like you're running on fumes, like a car driven miles and miles without a pit stop? That's what burnout feels like. It's that feeling of exhaustion that seeps into your bones, making every task feel like a mountain to climb. For us moms, it's a feeling we know all too well.
Whether you're a career woman juggling board meetings and ballet recitals, a stay-at-home mom managing a household and homeschooling, a single mom doing it all on your own, a bonus mom stepping into new territory, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, or an aunt trying to keep the family dynamic running smoothly we all face the risk of burnout.
Why do we seem drained by the end of the year? Is it because we're not getting the proper rest? Or is it because we're not making self-care and mental health days a routine?
I've been there, trust me. When I was a caregiver to my youngest son, I hit rock bottom more times than I can count. I was stressed out; losing hair, gaining weight, and nervousness was my constant shadow. I wasn't getting the proper rest or taking the mental breaks I needed to reset.
But here's the thing: admitting we're not okay is okay. It's OK to say that we're tired and need a break. It's OK to put ourselves first sometimes. Because the truth is, we can't give what we don't have.
So, how do we prevent burnout and ensure we are not depleted in our daily activities?
Stay tuned for the next post, exploring practical, achievable ways to prioritize self-care and prevent burnout.
